JOHNNY GRUELLE
The Cheery Scarecrow 1929 - Signed,1st Edition
Chicago, P.F. Volland Company. 1929, 1st Edition. Hardcover, 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Ill.: Johnny Gruelle. Book, 1929. Signed,1st edition- Johnny Gruelle. Johnny Gruelle, an American artist, political cartoonist, and a writer of children's books, is the creator of the Raggedy Ann doll and character. Gruelle worked with P.F. Volland Company; the first Raggedy Ann story came out in 1918. From 'The Cheery Scarecrow', 1929. "And even on stormy days when the hat of the Scarecrow is wet and bedraggled and the water has soaked through his clothes, the children know he is just as cheery as on that one beautiful day, for his smile remains always the same." Colored illustrations' are clean & bright- as are the pictorial boards square, clean, & bright- hinges and cloth spine in excellent shape. There is a bright and clear Johnny Gruelle autograph on the half title page. An owner's name is penciled on front endpaper. Housed in a new pictorial box. Very Good. Signed by Author(s).

GRUELLE, JOHNNY
THE COLORFUL WORLD OF RAGGEDY ANN AND ANDY, Designed for Reading, Painting, Coloring and Decorating
San Francisco, Determined Productions, 1966. 1966. Soft cover . Measures appx 14 1/4 x 19 3/4 inches. Colorful stiff paper front cover with a hard, unprinted chip board back cover. Black paper tape backstrip. Printed b&w throughout like a typical coloring book with 64 pages printed one side only + covers (so, of 32 sheets within, one title page and 31 images to color or paint, each with a caption at the bottom). With one exception, condition is nearly as new, with no signs of wear, use or abuse. Exception is a small area (appx 4x8 inches) of very neat watercoloring to the first page beyond the title page - the image of a small blond-haired doll or child in the background behind Raggedy Ann (painted yellow curls and a blue dress, this near the book's gutter, so actually hard to spot). A fun piece, in great overall condition (VG+, I might say). Due to size, shipping charges will have to be determined, adjusted, quoted (either before or after ordering). Very Good.
